Authentic, an 8-1 shot ridden by jockey John Velazquez, won the Kentucky Derby in dramatic fashion, finishing ahead of Tiz The Law to give trainer Bob Baffert his sixth career Derby victory. That ties him for the all-time record at Churchill Downs.
That’s great but it had to feel different then if it had been a regular Derby Day in May. The winners circle was not what winners normally experience. I’m sure there were parties last night but it wasn’t the same.
I was thinking this morning what if the horse was two back in May when the race should have taken place but now has turned three? Normally only two year old horses are eligible to run the Kentucky Derby.
Hopefully if they were eligible in May they were allowed to run yesterday. How terrible would it be to have a qualified horse for the Derby and lose the spot?
Now that the Derby is over it’s time to focus on the holiday weekend. ITS LABOR DAY, FELLAS! It’s the holiday where the working people are celebrated with a long weekend if you have one of those jobs that follow the bank calendar. Restaurants, stores, bars, and escorts. Lol, are still working.
I’m working today and tomorrow fellas. I would love to hear from some of my friends. I’m still off Blankenbaker and ready to hang out if you are.
You may or may not get a long weekend but I would love to appreciate you for all of your hard work. Treat yourself to some fun for an hour or so. Why not? You only live once.
